Kayko Donald is a Brooklyn born Caribbean, award winning filmmaker, designer, creative and alumna of New York University. She seeks to share her work inspired by storytelling to build community.
In 2018, Kayko led fundraiser campaigns through Girl’s Learn International resulting in the building of a classroom in Uganda.
In 2020 Kayko created the podcast series, The KnowUp, in response to the growing need for her peers to critically express themselves and discuss topics of social justice after the death of George Floyd and that year’s socio-political unrest. During the podcast, Kayko partnered up with the non-profit, R.O.A.D. a collective for Black LGBTQ+ members, and produced local art raffles resulting in thousands in proceeds raised for ROAD community members to access tools and resources for healing and wellness.
In 2021, Kayko began interning at the Non-Profit, Teach About Women, where she facilitated educational workshops to high school students on racial and gender equity through a creative lens.
Currently Kayko directs the international documentary film, “My Mother, Mary,” which tells a Caribbean story of freedom, revolution and migration through the lens of her mother, Mary. The film pays homage specifically to the island of Grenada for its contribution as a model for Pan-Africanism. Kayko’s team and cast include local Grenadians who tell their history from an insider perspective. And through consistent crowdfunding, grant writing, online and in person fundraising events, Kayko has raised over $10k to complete her film, while providing resources and opportunities to her team of Grenadian creatives.
